This class gives students the opportunity to study and employ various forms of journalistic writing for print and digital media. Together we will compose and edit pieces for the school newspaper: Paw Prints. We will also analyze how journalism and media has changed and developed over time in the eye of the public and in Hollywood -- this means watching at least one film (hopefully more) throughout our lessons to explore the ways in which the adaptations give us a different perspective of journalists and the media as a whole. Students in this class will learn interviewing techniques and develop writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Google Classroom
You are responsible for joining our google classroom and checking it daily for announcements and assignments. You will have already been invited to jin our class, so all you have to do is hit 'accept.'
Current Events
At the begining of each week, we discuss current events. This means you must keep up-to-date with news, both nationally and internationally. If you are absent from class on a day we discuss current events, you are required to submit your current event via email or Google Classroom.
Weekly Socratic Seminars
Topics about sports, technology, politics, world, local news, health, music, education and many more will be provided every Monday. You will have four days to complete research that you will share with the class in a Socratic Seminar every Friday. This assignment will count as a quiz grade and cannot be made up. If you are absent on a Friday when the topic is discussed, you must follow the assignment posted on Google Classroom.
